Tennis-A-Thon Sunday 22nd April 2018
We are very pleased to announce that our social secretary 'JoJo' will be raising funds for Basildon's Breast Care Unit on 22nd April.
Some of you may or not know but 5 years ago JoJo was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has always been so thankful to the NHS for the wonderful treatment and support that she received and still receives to this day. She always said that she would like to give something back and recently learnt that the Breast care unit at Basildon are in urgent need of fundraising to expand their department.

12 hour Tennis Marathon Sunday 18th June 9am - 9pm
We are pleased to announce that one of members Dean Cross is going to take part in a 12 hour tennis marathon at the club on Sunday 18th June 9am-9pm!
Dean who recently overcame depresssion will be raising money for a mental health charity. He will be taking on the ambitious challenge in a bid to thank Thurrock Mind for the support he needed to 'get back on track'.
Dean is naturally going to need some partners and opponents for this to take place, so we are asking for anyone who would like to take part to please contact Jo Jo on tel:07890 579599. We still have a few slots still available.
This I'm sure you will agree, will be a wonderful event to be part of. We wish Dean all the very best. If you don't want to play then please come down to support Dean, there will be buckets for donations on the day plus Dean will be setting up an online donation page.
Thurrock Lawn Tennis 2017 Club championships
The draw for the 2017 club championships took place last sunday. Please check the deadlines for each round and arrange matches to be completed before the deadline. Any matches not completed by the given deadlines will be decided by a coin toss. If you require contact details please ask the committee team who will provide the required details.

Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club Forthcoming Events
BANK HOLIDAY BBQ
We are looking to organise a BBQ for May Bank Holiday Monday, 29th. This would be a social day for members to come along to eat, drink and play tennis !! We would ask for a nominal fee of £2 to cover the BBQ food and for you to bring a bottle and some snacks of some kind .
JUNIOR AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
Following from the huge success of the Junior tournament held in April we will be holding another one on Tuesday 30th May from 1pm. Depending on what interest this generates we may look to hold two different sessions according to ability, with this in mind the beginners session would be from 1pm and the intermediate/advanced from 3.30pm. We would ask for £1 donation to take part in this. To book your childs place on this either email or text/call JoJo 07890 579599.
Please note this tournament is only valid for current junior members.
ADULT AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
Please note our next American Tournament is Saturday 10th June 2pm. We would ask for £1 donation to take part in this to cover the cost of refreshments.
QUIZ NIGHT
Our quiz night tickets have been selling really well so far ! For those who aren't aware of the evening its being held at Chafford Hundred Community Centre, Drake Rd, Chafford Hundred, Friday 30th June at 7pm. The purpose of this is to raise enough funds to purchase a ball machine for the club which would be an amazing piece of equipment to have ! Quiz teams are 6-8 to a table, cost of the tickets are £5 per adult and £3 per child. You can bring your own drink (alcoholic too!) and nibbles along to enjoy at your table !
Please let me know asap how many tickets you would like . I would also be hugely grateful for any raffle donations please !! Also feel free to share the event with friends and family.
SOCIAL PLAY
The social play sessions are proving to be a great success on the Mondays and Wednesdays with many turning up and getting to have a variety of members to play with and against. Please make use of them especially if you are entering the Club Championships too ! Of course there is plenty of other free court times for you to play as per the court schedule you would've received recently.

Following the success of the American tournaments that took place recently it has been agreed that an American tournament will take place on the 1st Saturday of every month (unless otherwise communicated).

Our Captain Terry completed the Bright Ideas for Tennis charity Skydive in aid of our club funds. The jump took place on 24th March at Headcorn. Now that's got to be worth a sponsor if you have not donated already. See video below....

As part of this years 24hr Marathon, Danny and a selection of club representatives completed a Tandem skydive at Headcorn Flight Centre, Kent. Designed to improve awareness of the event, to better engage the club membership, and to raise additional funds, the Skydive took place on 24th March 2016. As well as achieving the goals stated, great fun was had by all….
Fundraising Events - Bright Ideas for Tennis 24 hr Tennis Marathon NTC Roehampton
Six of our members took place in a 24 hour Tennis Marathon at NTC Roehampton on 20th - 21st February 2016. Jo Stehle, Joanne Wintour, Diane Morgan, Gavin McAlear, Paul Bennett and Gavin McAlear took turns to battle it out with former Ex-Davis cup players during the 24 hour session. 24 Hour Tennis Marathon and Sky Dive Events - My Donate Page
Two more fundraising events will occur in February with assistance from Bright Ideas for Tennis Charity (whose ambassador is Ex British No1 player Ten Henman).
Terry will be jumping out a plane to do a sky dive at Headcorn Airfield on 5th February. Then later in the month on 20th-21st February, Jo Stehle, Jo Wintour, Diane Morgan, Paul Bennett, Gavin McAlear and Terry Morgan will be participating in the 24-Hour Tennis Marathon at NTC Roehamton.
Our players are due on court at 8pm on 20th February where Ex Davis Cup players will also be present. Feel free to come along.

Have fun and get fit.....Cardio Tennis at Thurrock LTC
Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club now hold 'Cardio Tennis' sessions during the summer months on a Thursday evening 7pm (times may vary). No tennis
experience required and a racket may be provided if required. These session are a lot of fun. The aim is to have an aerobic workout in a fun enviroment.
Come and join in and enjoy the outside fitness sessions at Thurrock LTC. The cost for these sessions is £6.
Ladies Mornings
Ladies morning are now held at Thurrock Lawn Tennis club each Tuesday at 10am. Each session consists
of 45mins coaching and 45mins match play. These sessions welcome all standards. Join in these friendly sessions and get fit, but most importantly enjoy the tennis.
Coffee and biscuits are provided by the club after the sessions. The cost for these sessions is £5.
Leaders Course at Thurrock LTC
An LTA leaders course took place
at the club on 25th April under the guidance of our head coach Terry. The students from William
Edwards school who completed the course arranged subsequent competitions for local primary schools.
Little Thurrock and Warren Primary school participated in these competitions last Thursday 10th May. The

Easter Break Coaching and LTA Tournament
Thurrock LTC easter course and tournament was well
attended even though the weather was cold and snowy. Well done to everyone who attended!

Easter Break Coaching and LTA Tournament
Thurrock LTC will be running a small Easter course over 2
days which will comprise of 1 day coaching/training and then the 2nd day purely tournaments, results of which will be entered
into the LTA website.
The cost of the course will be GBP20 per person, this will include the coaching for 1.5 hours on day One and then tournament on day
Two which will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
The dates are as follows:-

8th April Orange Ball training 10a.m. start

Alex Strachen Retires
Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club's oldest member hangs up his racquet. Alex Strachan decided that at 86
it was time to take life easy and give up tennis. He is a Trustee of the club
and has played regularly for 50+ years. Most of that time he has taken an
active part in the running of the club. As part of the Club's Finals weekend
they presented Alex with a cup in his name that will be played for each year.
This year's winner is Martin Maile. Alex was given an engraved paperweight
as a personal momento

Junior Summer School 2011 Coaching
Thurrock Junior Ratings Competitions - Spring 2011
TLTC will be running Junior ratings competitions April 18th - 22nd 2011.

To be eligible for the competition you MUST have a British Tennis Number which can be
applied for by going to LTA Website or
click here for postal form. This is free to all affiliated club
members and will entitle you to enter into LTA regulated tournaments in and around the
Essex area. Please ensure that you have this unique number before entering into our competitions.
The categories will be as follows:-
Mini-Red (Years 5-7)
Mini-Orange (years 8/9)
Mini Green (Years 10/11)
Yellow ball (Years 12/16)
The format will be a timed competition to win as many games as possible during the
timed period against your opponent and will be competed on a round robin basis.
Mini Red will be 10 mins per match on a point basis each point won counts for 1 point
and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Mini Orange will be 15 minutes per match on a point basis each point won counts for
1 point and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Green/Yellow ball will be 20 minutes per match with normal game scoring with sudden
death deuce (receiver picks the side they would like to receive) this also counts
towards your mini tennis ratings.

TLTC held their AGM and Presentation of Awards Evening on March 9th. The awards were presented by Ray Smallcombe, Secretary of The Grays General Purposes and Recreational Charity. The Charity gave us the funding for a new honours board and trophies.

Saturday Morning Junior Coaching Course -
Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club
Junior coaching courses will now take place at Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club on Saturday Mornings. The new term starts on Saturday
19th September.
All students must be club members (junior membership can be obtained
for £15 until March 31st 2010). They would be able to
play at the Thurrock Lawn Tennis club at other times.
Membership and coaching courses to be paid in advance. Course
fees are £50 for each 10 week term and pupils will be learning
progressive tennis skills.

A fantastic response was received and due to over demand
additional courses will be scheduled in August. A big thanks to the
Thurrock Thames Gateway for sponsoring this successful program. Feedback

A RISING tennis star from Chafford Hundred was invited
onto centre court at Wimbledon last Thursday to encourage young people to play
tennis live on BBC breakfast. Charisma Nuqui, 7, of Mayflower Road has only been
playing tennis for a year and a half but her potential has already been noticed
by former British number one Jo Durie.
The BBC invited Charisma to spend
the day at Wimbledon and showed footage of her playing tennis which they had
filmed at the French Connection Tennis Academy where she trains two days before.
She was interviewed live on BBC Breakfast with her coach, dad Chris, and asked
what she liked best about tennis, to which she replied: "Just getting out there
and hitting the ball".
Jo Durie said of Charisma: "She is very good for
her age, we are looking for more kids like this under ten". We need more tennis
players and if we can get more like Charisma that would be fantastic". She
added: "Charisma works so hard, she is so dedicated." A pupil at Chafford
Hundred Primary, Charisma trains six times a week. As well as attending the
French Connection Tennis Academy, she also trains at Next Generation in Romford,
and the Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club. Her mum Irene Nuqui said: "We are so proud of
Charisma being invited to be a guest on BBC Breakfast."It was so exciting for
all of us, but Charisma was very cool."She wasn't even nervous to be on TV."She
added: "Charisma does work very hard to get this reward".
When asked what
she wants to be when she grows up, she says a tennis player."If its what she
really wants to do then we are behind her 100 per cent." The family also got to
meet some tennis greats from the past and present during their day at Wimbledon.
Mrs Nuqui said: "We had breakfast in the BBC canteen where we saw John LLoyd and
the BBC producer introduced Charisma to him."We also met Richard Gasquet, Marat
Safin, Ferrer and Zheng Jie at the practice courts".
Mrs Nuqui says the
family owe a lot to Charisma's school, adding: "We wouldn't be anywhere without
their support, they have been brilliant, encouraging Charisma in a big and
positive way. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people who
want the best for Charisma."

Thurrock Lawn Tennis are pleased to announce the dates for the forthcoming summer schools. In the past

Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club now hold 'Cardio Tennis' sessions during the summer months on a Thursday evening 7pm (times may vary). No tennis
experience required and a racket may be provided if required. These session are a lot of fun. The aim is to have an aerobic workout in a fun enviroment.
Come and join in and enjoy the outside fitness sessions at Thurrock LTC. The cost for these sessions is £6.
Ladies Mornings
Ladies morning are now held at Thurrock Lawn Tennis club each Tuesday at 10am. Each session consists
of 45mins coaching and 45mins match play. These sessions welcome all standards. Join in these friendly sessions and get fit, but most importantly enjoy the tennis.
Coffee and biscuits are provided by the club after the sessions. The cost for these sessions is £5.
Leaders Course at Thurrock LTC
An LTA leaders course took place
at the club on 25th April under the guidance of our head coach Terry. The students from William
Edwards school who completed the course arranged subsequent competitions for local primary schools.
Little Thurrock and Warren Primary school participated in these competitions last Thursday 10th May. The
winners of of the day was Warren primary school. Here are some photos of those who took part.

Easter Break Coaching and LTA Tournament
Thurrock LTC easter course and tournament was well
attended even though the weather was cold and snowy. Well done to everyone who attended!

Easter Break Coaching and LTA Tournament
Thurrock LTC will be running a small Easter course over 2
days which will comprise of 1 day coaching/training and then the 2nd day purely tournaments, results of which will be entered
into the LTA website.
The cost of the course will be GBP20 per person, this will include the coaching for 1.5 hours on day One and then tournament on day
Two which will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
The dates are as follows:-
4th April RED Ball training 10a.m. start
5th April RED Ball tournament 9.30a.m. start
8th April Orange Ball training 10a.m. start
9th April Orange Ball tournament 9.30a.m. start

All finals will be held on Sunday 21st July 2013 @ Rayleigh LTC.

If any of our Under 18 juniors girls or boys would
like to participate in this local event please download the

Alex Strachen Retires
Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club's oldest member hangs up his racquet. Alex Strachan decided that at 86
it was time to take life easy and give up tennis. He is a Trustee of the club
and has played regularly for 50+ years. Most of that time he has taken an
active part in the running of the club. As part of the Club's Finals weekend
they presented Alex with a cup in his name that will be played for each year.
This year's winner is Martin Maile. Alex was given an engraved paperweight
as a personal momento

TLTC will be running Junior ratings competitions April 18th - 22nd 2011.

To be eligible for the competition you MUST have a British Tennis Number which can be
applied for by going to LTA Website or
click here for postal form. This is free to all affiliated club
members and will entitle you to enter into LTA regulated tournaments in and around the
Essex area. Please ensure that you have this unique number before entering into our competitions.
The categories will be as follows:-
Mini-Red (Years 5-7)
Mini-Orange (years 8/9)
Mini Green (Years 10/11)
Yellow ball (Years 12/16)
The format will be a timed competition to win as many games as possible during the
timed period against your opponent and will be competed on a round robin basis.
Mini Red will be 10 mins per match on a point basis each point won counts for 1 point
and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Mini Orange will be 15 minutes per match on a point basis each point won counts for
1 point and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Green/Yellow ball will be 20 minutes per match with normal game scoring with sudden
death deuce (receiver picks the side they would like to receive) this also counts
towards your mini tennis ratings.

TLTC Junior and Adult Tournaments '1000' days to go'
The '1000 days to' tournaments which took place earlier in April were a great success this year and was enjoyed by everyone taking place. The winners of the tournaments were as follows:

Club AGM and Presentations
TLTC held their AGM and Presentation of Awards Evening on March 9th. The awards were presented by Ray Smallcombe, Secretary of The Grays General Purposes and Recreational Charity. The Charity gave us the funding for a new honours board and trophies.

Saturday Morning Junior Coaching Course -
Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club
Junior coaching courses will now take place at Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club on Saturday Mornings. The new term starts on Saturday
19th September.
All students must be club members (junior membership can be obtained
for £15 until March 31st 2010). They would be able to
play at the Thurrock Lawn Tennis club at other times.
Membership and coaching courses to be paid in advance. Course
fees are £50 for each 10 week term and pupils will be learning
progressive tennis skills.

Saturday Morning Junior Coaching Course -
Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club
Junior coaching courses will now take place at Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club on Saturday Mornings. The new term starts on Saturday
19th September.
All students must be club members (junior membership can be obtained
for £15 until March 31st 2010). They would be able to
play at the Thurrock Lawn Tennis club at other times.
Membership and coaching courses to be paid in advance. Course
fees are £50 for each 10 week term and pupils will be learning
progressive tennis skills.

Thurrock LTC easter course and tournament was well

days which will comprise of 1 day coaching/training and then the 2nd day purely tournaments, results of which will be entered
into the LTA website.
The cost of the course will be GBP20 per person, this will include the coaching for 1.5 hours on day One and then tournament on day
Two which will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
The dates are as follows:-
4th April RED Ball training 10a.m. start
5th April RED Ball tournament 9.30a.m. start
8th April Orange Ball training 10a.m. start
9th April Orange Ball tournament 9.30a.m. start

Alex Strachen Retires
Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club's oldest member hangs up his racquet. Alex Strachan decided that at 86
it was time to take life easy and give up tennis. He is a Trustee of the club
and has played regularly for 50+ years. Most of that time he has taken an
active part in the running of the club. As part of the Club's Finals weekend
they presented Alex with a cup in his name that will be played for each year.
This year's winner is Martin Maile. Alex was given an engraved paperweight
as a personal momento

To be eligible for the competition you MUST have a British Tennis Number which can be
applied for by going to LTA Website or
click here for postal form. This is free to all affiliated club
members and will entitle you to enter into LTA regulated tournaments in and around the
Essex area. Please ensure that you have this unique number before entering into our competitions.
The categories will be as follows:-
Mini-Red (Years 5-7)
Mini-Orange (years 8/9)
Mini Green (Years 10/11)
Yellow ball (Years 12/16)
The format will be a timed competition to win as many games as possible during the
timed period against your opponent and will be competed on a round robin basis.
Mini Red will be 10 mins per match on a point basis each point won counts for 1 point
and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Mini Orange will be 15 minutes per match on a point basis each point won counts for
1 point and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Green/Yellow ball will be 20 minutes per match with normal game scoring with sudden
death deuce (receiver picks the side they would like to receive) this also counts
towards your mini tennis ratings.

The '1000 days to' tournaments which took place earlier in April were a great success this year and was enjoyed by everyone taking place. The winners of the tournaments were as follows:

Thurrock Junior Ratings Competitions - Spring 2011
TLTC will be running Junior ratings competitions April 18th - 22nd 2011.

To be eligible for the competition you MUST have a British Tennis Number which can be
applied for by going to LTA Website or
click here for postal form. This is free to all affiliated club
members and will entitle you to enter into LTA regulated tournaments in and around the
Essex area. Please ensure that you have this unique number before entering into our competitions.
The categories will be as follows:-
Mini-Red (Years 5-7)
Mini-Orange (years 8/9)
Mini Green (Years 10/11)
Yellow ball (Years 12/16)
The format will be a timed competition to win as many games as possible during the
timed period against your opponent and will be competed on a round robin basis.
Mini Red will be 10 mins per match on a point basis each point won counts for 1 point
and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Mini Orange will be 15 minutes per match on a point basis each point won counts for
1 point and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Green/Yellow ball will be 20 minutes per match with normal game scoring with sudden
death deuce (receiver picks the side they would like to receive) this also counts
towards your mini tennis ratings.

The '1000 days to' tournaments which took place earlier in April were a great success this year and was enjoyed by everyone taking place. The winners of the tournaments were as follows:

TLTC held their AGM and Presentation of Awards Evening on March 9th. The awards were presented by Ray Smallcombe, Secretary of The Grays General Purposes and Recreational Charity. The Charity gave us the funding for a new honours board and trophies.

Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club
Junior coaching courses will now take place at Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club on Saturday Mornings. The new term starts on Saturday
19th September.
All students must be club members (junior membership can be obtained
for £15 until March 31st 2010). They would be able to
play at the Thurrock Lawn Tennis club at other times.
Membership and coaching courses to be paid in advance. Course
fees are £50 for each 10 week term and pupils will be learning
progressive tennis skills.

Alex Strachen Retires
Thurrock Lawn Tennis
Club's oldest member hangs up his racquet. Alex Strachan decided that at 86
it was time to take life easy and give up tennis. He is a Trustee of the club
and has played regularly for 50+ years. Most of that time he has taken an
active part in the running of the club. As part of the Club's Finals weekend
they presented Alex with a cup in his name that will be played for each year.
This year's winner is Martin Maile. Alex was given an engraved paperweight
as a personal momento

Thurrock Junior Ratings Competitions - Spring 2011
TLTC will be running Junior ratings competitions April 18th - 22nd 2011.

To be eligible for the competition you MUST have a British Tennis Number which can be
applied for by going to LTA Website or
click here for postal form. This is free to all affiliated club
members and will entitle you to enter into LTA regulated tournaments in and around the
Essex area. Please ensure that you have this unique number before entering into our competitions.
The categories will be as follows:-
Mini-Red (Years 5-7)
Mini-Orange (years 8/9)
Mini Green (Years 10/11)
Yellow ball (Years 12/16)
The format will be a timed competition to win as many games as possible during the
timed period against your opponent and will be competed on a round robin basis.
Mini Red will be 10 mins per match on a point basis each point won counts for 1 point
and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Mini Orange will be 15 minutes per match on a point basis each point won counts for
1 point and will also count towards your mini tennis ratings.
Green/Yellow ball will be 20 minutes per match with normal game scoring with sudden
death deuce (receiver picks the side they would like to receive) this also counts
towards your mini tennis ratings.

19th September.

A RISING tennis star from Chafford Hundred was invited
onto centre court at Wimbledon last Thursday to encourage young people to play
tennis live on BBC breakfast. Charisma Nuqui, 7, of Mayflower Road has only been
playing tennis for a year and a half but her potential has already been noticed
by former British number one Jo Durie.
The BBC invited Charisma to spend
the day at Wimbledon and showed footage of her playing tennis which they had
filmed at the French Connection Tennis Academy where she trains two days before.
She was interviewed live on BBC Breakfast with her coach, dad Chris, and asked
what she liked best about tennis, to which she replied: "Just getting out there
and hitting the ball".
Jo Durie said of Charisma: "She is very good for
her age, we are looking for more kids like this under ten". We need more tennis
players and if we can get more like Charisma that would be fantastic". She
added: "Charisma works so hard, she is so dedicated." A pupil at Chafford
Hundred Primary, Charisma trains six times a week. As well as attending the
French Connection Tennis Academy, she also trains at Next Generation in Romford,
and the Thurrock Lawn Tennis Club. Her mum Irene Nuqui said: "We are so proud of
Charisma being invited to be a guest on BBC Breakfast."It was so exciting for
all of us, but Charisma was very cool."She wasn't even nervous to be on TV."She
added: "Charisma does work very hard to get this reward".
When asked what
she wants to be when she grows up, she says a tennis player."If its what she
really wants to do then we are behind her 100 per cent." The family also got to
meet some tennis greats from the past and present during their day at Wimbledon.

the BBC producer introduced Charisma to him."We also met Richard Gasquet, Marat
Safin, Ferrer and Zheng Jie at the practice courts".

their support, they have been brilliant, encouraging Charisma in a big and
positive way. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful people who
